Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have no plans to ask the US government for help with their security costs, the couple said in a statement on Sunday.
This comes after US President Donald Trump in a tweet said the country will not pay for the couple's security protection during their residence in Los Angeles.
A spokeswoman for the couple later said in a statement, "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have no plans to ask the US government for security resources. Privately funded security arrangements have been made."
The couple reportedly flew from Canada to Los Angeles by a private jet. Meghan grew up in Los Angeles and her mother still lives in the city.
Earlier in January, the couple had announced that they would step down from their roles as senior Royals. Their decision to lead a more independent life had been popularly dubbed as "megxit".
