Home > News Shots > WorldRussian President Vladimir Putin did not have a very good day as he was faced with unexpected questions coming from the common people.
While visiting his native city of Saint Petersburg, Putin came face to face with a Russian woman who asked him how much he earns and whether he could live on her income of $170 (around Rs. 12,000) a month.
According to The Moscow Times report, a woman, who was captured in a hooded coat walked up in the crowd and immediately asked him; "Please tell me, is it possible to live on 10,800 rubles ($170)?." To which, Putin politely answered, "I think it's very hard." She then hit back at him saying, "Your pay is probably about 800,000 rubles (approximately Rs. 8,99,476), I imagine," she said.
Putin did not hesitate to answer her back and said, "Well yes. But some in Russia earn far more and the president doesn't have the highest salary." The woman further went on explaining about everyday costs and how difficult it is to survive with the little.
Both their conversations continued a little further, where Putin discussed to improve lives of families with children, including enhanced child benefits and payouts for the birth of a child. "Of course you are right, we still have a lot of social problems that the government has to solve," he said. "Why don't you solve them then?" the woman hit back.
To which Putin again calmly replied "We are solving them." Finally, the woman asked Putin to pose with her for a photo and he happily did.
Putin had visited Saint Petersburg to mark twenty years of former city mayor Anatoly Sobchak. He also laid a wreath at a political mentor's grave where he was approached by people. Watch the video below:
