GOOD NEWS : EXPERTS REVEAL HOW HERD IMMUNITY AGAINST COVID-19 IS POSSIBLE TO ACHIEVE WITHOUT VACCINE
Home > News Shots > WorldExperts were doubtful regarding the possibility of achieving herd immunity or community immunity against the novel coronavirus infection in the absence of a vaccine. However, the current condition has revealed stunning results.
Scientists who have been closely monitoring the immunity development in mild, moderate to severe cases of SARS-CoV-2 have said that there are encouraging signs of lasting immunity. “This is exactly what you would hope for. All the pieces are there to have a totally protective immune response,” said Marion Pepper, an immunologist at the University of Washington. “This is very promising,” “This calls for some optimism about herd immunity, and potentially a vaccine,” say immunologists at different universities in the U.S.
Several studies suggest that these viruses may appear after months post the infection which means that the researchers are unable to predict how long the immune responses will last. Hence, the protection against reinfection is not substantiated with complete proof but most people who have encountered the same are managing to keep the infection “at bay.”
About 21,19,870 cases have been recorded from across the globe and approximately 7,70,429 people have lost their lives while battling against this deadly new infection. Scientists have also been continuously making an effort to find an effective and safe vaccine.
