US STATE FILES CASE AGAINST CHINESE GOVERNMENT OVER VIRUS HANDLING, CHINA SLAMS & REACTS!
Home > News Shots > WorldAmid the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, a US state has filed a lawsuit against China over the coronavirus outbreak. US state of Missouri has accused China of keeping quite on the information related to COVID-19. They also alleged that Chinese officials are to be blamed for the pandemic that has infected around 2.5 million people worldwide, thrown hundreds of people out of work and devastated local economies.
Missouri’s Attorney General Eric Schmitt recently said the Chinese government lied about the dangers of the virus and did not do enough to slow its spread.
A day after the charges, Beijing slammed and responded to it during a press conference, claiming that since its outbreak, China had acted in an ‘open, transparent, and responsible’ manner. Meanwhile, the Chinese government also called the lawsuit as ‘absurd’.
Foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said the legal action has “no factual and legal basis at all”. “This so-called lawsuit is very absurd and has no factual and legal basis at all,” Geng said at a daily briefing.
As per a CNN report, the ministry and other Chinese government departments have denied accusations that officials delayed reporting on the outbreak of the virus. While, medical staff who reported about the growing number of cases were silenced under threat of legal retaliation.
