The aircraft was operated by a private airline Busy Bee, that plunged into houses in Mapendo district in Goma after it took off from the airport on November 24. The Busy Bee Dornier-228 smashed into two houses near the airport.

The North Kivu regional government stated that there were 19 people on the flight with 17 passengers and two crew members and all have been taken to hospital. "At this stage, 29 bodies have been found in the rubble," the statement said.

According to BBC reports, the first images from the scene showed smoke coming above the neighbourhood and the aircraft in flames with local people throwing buckets of water on it. Also, videos by AFP showed the cabin of the plane stuck in the wall of the house.

Busy Bee, is a recently established company and it has three planes serving routes in the North Kivu province. Meanwhile, the Nord Kivu governor Carly Nzanzu Kasivita said in a statement that the pilot "failed in his takeoff".
