Madora, a mainly Muslim hamlet in Uttar Pradesh, has reportedly banned women from using mobile phones in public. Village elders have also reportedly ruled that women found using a mobile phone outside their homes would be fined Rs 21,000. However, police reportedly said, “Such orders are against the Constitution and we will take action”. The move was an attempt to restrict their contacts with men, police said.
