On this day, 42 years ago, the West Indies cricket team led by Clive Lloyd won the inaugural edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup which began in England on June 7, 1975. Called the Prudential World Cup, the tournament saw participation from eight teams, including non-Test-playing sides Sri Lanka and East Africa. The final of the tournament saw Clive Lloyd's West Indies beat Australia by 17 runs.
