According to reports, the US State Department paid the money for hotel rooms when Eric Trump, the son of President Donald Trump travelled to Uruguay in early January for a Trump Organization promotional trip for around two nights. The total amount spent during the trip included $88,250 for the Secret Service's hotel rooms in Uruguay and an additional $9,510 for the US Embassy staff to stay in hotel rooms to support the Secret Service. Notably, the funds provided by US State Department comes in the form of tax paid by its citizens.
