The UNESCO has reportedly named UAE’s Sharjah city as the World Book Capital for 2019. Sharjah, the 19th city to become World Book Capital, has previously been named Capital of Islamic Culture and Capital of Arab Culture. UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova said, "I applaud the efforts undertaken by the city to make reading available to as many people as possible."
