A class 12 textbook of Maharashtra reportedly says ugliness is the reason why dowry still prevails. The sociology textbook reportedly read, “If a girl is ugly and handicapped, then it becomes a very difficult for her to get married.” It also went on to say, “To marry such girls, bridegroom and his family demand more dowry. Parents of such girls become helpless and pay dowry as per the demands of the bridegroom’s family.” State education board chief reportedly said that action will be taken on this issue.
