Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday reportedly announced a series of initiatives including the development of 3,500 km of rural roads at an estimated cost of Rs 800 crore in 2017-18. Further, he said, 2659 km of rural roads and 25 bridges would be developed this year as part of the Prime Minister's Rural Roads Scheme. He said, nearly 27 lakh individual toilets would be constructed as part of Swachh Bharat scheme in 2017-18 at an estimated Rs 3,178 crore. Underground sewage systems would be set up in expanded areas of the Corporations of Vellore, Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli and Tirunelveli at an overall cost of around Rs 1,436 crore under Centre's Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation scheme, he further said.
