The TN government in its 2017-18 budget announced that a new fishing harbour would be set up at Mookaiyur in Ramanathapuram district. Finance Minister Jayakumar announced that Rs 1,105 crore has been allotted for the expansion of existing ports and for creating new ports. Further, he added that a Rs 40 crore Aavin milk production unit would be set up in Madurai. The Madurai milk production unit will be exclusively for the production of flavoured milk under brand Aavin.
