Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said that the company is planning to launch its first Tesla Electric Vehicle in India next year. He said this as a reply to IIT-Madras students’ question on the timeline for the launch of Tesla in India during the finals of “SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition 2019” at Los Angeles on July 21.
The IIT-Madras team dubbed as Avishkar Hyperloop is the only team from Asia to qualify for the finals of the competition. The team is lead by Suyash Singh, a second year M.Tech Mechanical Engineering student. Though the competition was won by Team TUM from the Technical University of Munich, Avishkar Hyperloop’s project has reportedly impressed Elon Musk and Virgin Hyperloop One Co-founder Josh Geigel.
According to a report by IANS, Avishkar Hyperloop is working on an indigenous design and development for building the first-ever self-propelled, completely autonomous Hyperloop Pod in India.
On a related note, Earlier this year, Musk had tweeted “Would love to be there this year. If not, definitely next! India”, in reply to a user. Replying to another user on the cause of delay in launching Tesla cars in India, Musk had tweeted, “Would love to be in India. Some challenging Government regulations, unfortunately.”
Tesla might enter Indian market with its Model 3 car which costs around $35,000 in the US.
