South Korean electronics giant Samsung has on Thursday reportedly dethroned Intel as the world's biggest chipmaker by sales and outstripped smartphone rival Apple in quarterly profits. Reports say Intel’s quarter century reign has come to an end, thanks to booming demand for Samsung’s simplest product: the humble memory chip. Samsung on Thursday said its semiconductor business recorded 8 trillion in operating income on revenue of 17.6 trillion won during the April-June period.
