IF YOU ARE A ZOOM USER, BE ALERT! HACKERS MIGHT BE SELLING YOUR ACCOUNT DETAILS FOR FREE
Home > News Shots > TechnologyThe Zoom app has seen tremendous growth over the past few weeks, since the beginning of the Coronavirus outbreak. Companies across the globe have been using the app to hold team meetings while working from home but it is time for Zoom users to be cautious since media reports suggest that Zoom accounts are being sold for free on dark web.
Bleeping computer in its report mentioned that account details of around 5 lakh users are being sold for less than a penny ($0.002, roughly Rs. 0.15) or in some cases being given away for free. The hackers have attempted to log in using Zoom account credentials that were leaked earlier and pick accounts that they could successfully log into. A list of successful logins, is then compiled and sold to interested buyers through hacker dark web or hacker forums. The report also indicates that some of the buyers might even use the accounts for carrying out malicious activities.
According to Hindustan Times, Cybersecurity firm Cyble noticed account details being posted on hacker forums on April 1 this year. Reportedly, details of the users’ email addresses, passwords, personal meeting URLs and Host Key were being shared to hackers via text sharing sites. Cyble managed to reach out to some of the zoom users which include, Citibank, Chase, University of Florida and Dartmouth amongst others. They verified that the details were valid credentials.
While Zoom’s response on the issue is awaited, its users can temporarily safeguard their account credentials by changing their current passwords.
