The tragic death of the wife who went to save her husband who was electrocuted has left everyone in deeply saddened.
Nivas Rathinam (age 30) hailed from Vettangudi village next to Sirkali in Mayiladuthurai district. He was working as a mason. He was busy setting up a new light bulb in his house yesterday morning when he was unexpectedly struck by electricity while attempting to connect.
Shocked by this, his wife Hema (age 25) had rushed with her 2-year-old daughter Nikanya to save her husband. But unfortunately, all three were electrocuted and died on spot.
As no one came out of the house till evening, a woman living nearby came to check on them. She found Nivas, his wife and his child lying motionless near the kitchen and immediately tried to wake them up but she was struck by electricity too.
She called the neighbors and as they rushed to the scene, they disconnected the power and rescued the three. But it was too late as they had already died of electrocution. Police have seized the bodies of the three and are investigating.
