Manoharan (aged 60) hails from Andipatti, Theni district. He has got acquainted with Muruganantham and Kannappan. They said they have iridium and asked Manoharan to come to Coimbatore with Rs 30 lakh if he wanted it.
Believing this, Manoharan took a room in a private hotel in the Singanallur area of Coimbatore. Unidentified persons who came to Manoharan's room at that time have introduced that he was sent by Muruganantham. He then handed the box to Manoharan and told him that it contained iridium and that he should look at it after sometime without opening it immediately.
Following this, he handed over the 30 lakh rupees he had brought. The gang of 4 people who got this immediately escaped from there. Then the old man opened the box and saw that there was a brick inside it. Manoharan was shocked and immediately lodged a complaint at the Singanallur police station.
Based on the complaint, the police are looking for the unidentified persons who received money from Muruganantham, Kannabhan and Manoharan. Police are also examining CCTV footage of the hotel. The incident in which an old man was deceived by giving a brick as iridium has caused shock in the area.
