The incident in which more than 200 lives were saved due to the swift action of the power plant employee in the Tanjore chariot accident has caused tension.
The 94th Upper Guru Pooja was held at Kalimedu village near Thanjavur. The election was held yesterday to mark the occasion. The chariot was brought through various streets in the Kalimedu area. At around 3 in the morning, the chariot came to a halt on Puthalur Road in Kalimedu area when it was struck by a high voltage wire. 10 of them died at the scene. More than 10 were seriously injured.
In this situation, the incident which saved the lives of many due to the swift action of the power plant employee has now come to light. Thirunanam (age 36) hails from Kalimettu village. He is working as a contract employee in the power plant. He was at home at the time of the chariot accident. Then the man heard the screams of the public and ran away, realizing that electricity was spreading in the water on the ground.
Immediately he decided to save the public regardless of the injury and went inside. Meanwhile, he informed the high power officials and his colleagues in Tanjore over phone.
Following this, the higher authorities cut off the voltage of the high voltage power line to Kalimedu as it was in Thanjavur. Thus preventing further power transmission. More than 200 lives have been saved. Thirunanam, who was injured in the accident, is currently receiving treatment at the Tanjore Medical College Hospital.
