There is a lift in the main area of the Chennai Nungambakkam railway station connecting the first floor and the ground floor. Passengers boarded to leave Nungambakkam railway station around 8 last night.

All of a sudden, the lift broke down and got stuck between the first floor and the ground floor. Thus those in the lift were stranded and they immediately called the emergency number which was inside the lift. The number was said to have been constantly busy for a few minutes. And then, the Railway Police was informed.

Following this, the railway police and fire brigade rushed to the spot. After the attempts to operate the elevator in the first instance failed, firefighters removed the fan from the roof of the lift. Then the trapped passengers were rescued one by one from the lift.
What is the reason?
Of these 14 passengers who were trapped, there were a one-and-a-half-year-old child, women and men. After about 2 hours of fighting all were safely rescued. Thus, there was great excitement in the area. And now, the railway authorities are investigating the main cause of the malfunction of lift.
