It has been announced that the traffic in Chennai has been diverted due to the ongoing Metro works.
In the second phase of the Metro Rail project in Chennai, a 47 km metro line is to be constructed between Madhavaram-CMBT-Sholinganallur. Therefore, temporary barriers have been set up at Kaliamman Kovil Road, Coimbatore for the construction of the Metro Rail Line and stations.
Also between CMBT, Dhanya Sandhai, Sai Nagar bus stand, Metro line and station construction work are to take place. Due to this the traffic has been changed to test mode. As a first step, a temporary barrier has been set up on Kaliamman Kovil Road to regulate traffic.
It is also informed by the Metro work contractors that temporary steel barriers would be set up on the road and construction work would start. Therefore, the existing traffic change has been announced for another 60 days, i.e. from the 14th March to the 12th of May.
Meanwhile, the Chennai Metro Rail has been extended to about 9 km from Washermenpet under the extension project and is currently operational. Two metro stations on the route, Tiruvottiyur Theradi and Wimco Nagar workshop, came into operation from yesterday.
Metro management has also announced that passengers will be able to park their vehicles free of cost at the Wimco Nagar Workshop metro station only this month.This move has come as a great relief for the travelers.
