The number of people smuggling gold to India from countries including the United Arab Emirates has increased in recent times. Although some people are involved in smuggling activities such as hoarding inside shoes, turning gold into paste and sticking it in the head, setting a secret place in boxes and smuggling gold into it, the customs officials catch them perfectly. Customs officials have nabbed three people who smuggled gold at the Trichy airport a few days ago.
Three persons who arrived at the Trichy airport from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates on the 11th are suspected by the customs officials there. Authorities subsequently searched their belongings. Although there was no suspicious object in it, the customs officials were suspicious of the laptop they had brought.
Because of this they decided to open the laptop. Authorities then found gold in it. According to customs officials, the gold seized from them weighed 1.98 kg and was valued at Rs 1.28 crore.
Trichy Customs officials have posted a video on Twitter of an officer splitting a laptop seized from three passengers on their way to Trichy via Sharjah from Dubai, United Arab Emirates and taking the gold inside.
Customs officials have arrested three people for smuggling 1.28 crore rupees worth of gold into a laptop. Meanwhile this video is currently spreading virally on social web sites.
On Suspicion, the officers of AIU, Trichy intercepted 3 passengers arrived from Dubai / Sharjah on 11.5.22. It was found that they had concealed Gold in foil form inside the laptops. 1982gms of Gold and electronic goods, totally valued at Rs.1.28Cr were seized.
