In yet another violent incident, a woman was beaten up in Melur on Thursday over rumours of being a child-lifter. The young woman's hands were tied up and beaten up by a group of locals.
The woman had to be rescued by the police and was admitted to a government hospital. She reportedly raised the villagers' suspicion for holding biscuits in her hand. This prompted the villagers to mistake her for a child-lifter.
The incident comes as part of a series of such incidents happening all over India. Mob lynching over child-lifting rumours has reached a peak at the moment. The woman was injured and is yet to speak.
