The Election Commission on Friday reportedly explained to the Madras High Court on why it accepted the nomination papers with Jayalalithaa’s left thumb impression for the by-polls earlier this year. Election Commission Chief Secretary Wilfred appeared before the Madras High Court in connection with the case filed by DMK’s Saravanan. Wilfred reportedly said that the EC accepted her fingerprints based on the then Speaker Madhusudanan’s letter. However, when the court asked if the General Secretary authorised Madhusudanan for his letter, the EC answered 'no'.
