Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami announced that Vellore will be split in three districts creating two more districts on Thursday during Independence Day speech.
He said that Vellore district will be trifurcated into Vellore, Tirupathur and Ranipet. KV Kuppam is being formed as a new taluk. The creation of two more districts make a total of 37 districts in Tamil Nadu.
Vellore district has 13 assembly constituencies and there is 150 km between the two ends of Vellore district.
This change would mean that people don't have to travel long distance to reach Collector office or RTO office or other offices anymore.
This is latest after splitting Villupuram, Thirunelveli and Kanchipuram,creating Kallakurichi, Tenkasi and Chengalpattu, respectively.
