According to reports, the state government is to invest in a crematorium for Rs 20 lakhs for the animals in Vandalur Zoo. If not a crematorium, an electric incinerator will be introduced in the zoo.
Zoo officials have so far been either burning the carcasses of the dead animals in the open or burying them within the premises of the zoo. However, this has been proven to spread diseases. Sometimes, fire accidents are also caused.
An incinerator can reportedly help keep the zoo sterile. Disposal of waste can also be kept to a minimum.
