A hotel in Coimbatore has been sealed after an unmarried couple was found occupying a room and liquor bottles were found in another room during a search by authorities, reports Puthiya thalaimurai.
The hotelier challenged it in the court and the court said in a recent order that "Apparently, there are no laws or regulations forbearing unmarried persons of the opposite sex to occupy hotel rooms as guests."
Mentioning that live-in relationship is not an offense, the court said that an unmarried couple occupying a hotel room is not a crime.
The court further said that just because alcohol bottles were found in the room doesn't mean the hotel sells alcohol. The court ordered the police to remove the seal within two days of the order.
The hotel was searched after complaints alleging immoral activities and was closed following the raid.
