Over 30 people from the transgender community staged an agitation before actor Kasturi’s residence near Alwarpet in Chennai on Saturday. They protested against the derogatory remarks posted against transgenders on Twitter by the actor.
Kastur had tweeted the remarks after the Madras High Court’s split verdict in the MLAs disqualification case. Stating that the actor had posted the remarks for her political gains, the transgenders said that Kasturi humiliated their community. They also demanded an apology from the actor.
Earlier, the HC bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M Sundar delivered a split verdict in the 18 MLAs disqualification case on Thursday. The CJ upheld the Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal’s decision disqualifying 18 MLAs owing allegiance to RK Nagar MLA TTV Dhinakaran. However, Justice Sundar overturned the disqualification saying that the Speaker’s action was against the constitution.
