SALEM BOY HIT BY TOY GUN 'BULLET', INJURES RIGHT LUNG

In a shocking case, a 17-year-old youth was accidentally hit by a toy gun bullet which pierced his right chest. The youth from Salem's Ponnammapettai Mariamman Kovil area was playing with his friends with a toy gun when a 'dart bullet' accidentally fired from the toy gun pierced his right chest.
According to Deccan Chronicle reports, the tragic incident took place on May 18. Minutes after the incident, Karthik was rushed to the Salem Mohan Kumaramangalam government hospital as he was complaining of breathing problem.
Meanwhile, the GH dean, Prof K Thirumal Babu said "a CT scan confirmed the presence of a ‘bullet’ in the middle of the right lung, after having caused injury to the right lung. In a timely, sensitive surgical procedure, a team of doctors successfully removed a dart bullet fired by opening his right chest.
"The patient has since recovered and is taking normal diet. Any gunshot injury to the chest wall should be operated earlier to remove the foreign bodies and also to repair the lung damage and other vital organs to prevent very serious complications," the dean added.
