Tamil Nadu on Saturday reported 58 new Coronavirus cases taking the total number of positive cases to 969, Chief Secretary K Shanmugam told reporters. The state also reported a death from Erode taking the death toll to 10.
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy has suggested an extension of the ongoing lockdown during meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. The Final call will be taken by the Centre, he further said.
Chennai has the highest number of Coronavirus cases in Tamil Nadu (182), followed by Coimbatore which has 97 cases.
As per Tamil Nadu Heath Department’s latest data, the state government has screened 2,10,538 passengers and has isolated 1884 suspected individuals in hospitals.
The state government has tested 9842 samples of which 969 have tested positive. Results of 1094 samples are awaited. 44 patients were discharged following treatment.
Tamil Nadu has 21 (12 Govt and 9 private) functioning COVID-19 testing facilities. A total of 3,371 ventilators and 29,074 isolation beds are available in the state.
