A family of five in Iyyarkandigai village near Gummidipoondi, including two teenagers, consumed poison mixed with food as part of a suicide pact, allegedly due to a family dispute. Neighbors found the family unconscious upon which they rushed them to a hospital nearby. Three adults died whereas the teenagers continue to respond to the treatment. The doctors were quoted as saying, “The girls vomited soon after they consumed the poison. Hence, their chances of survival increased." No suicide note was found. The police have registered a case and are conducting investigations.
