A week before, the Supreme Court had ruled that during Diwali firecrackers can be burst only from 8 pm to 10 pm. It also stated that during Christmas and New Year firecrackers can be burst between 11.45 pm and 12.45 am.
In response to the decision, the Tamil Nadu government on Monday moved the SC to extend the time period for bursting firecrackers. The government asked for firecrackers to be burst from 4 am to 6 am as well.
The SC had also ruled that only 'green crackers' could be burst. Firecrackers manufacturers in TN stated that they would file a review plea against the decision as there was no such thing as a green cracker.
