Home > News Shots > Tamil NaduMatters worsened for Tamil Nadu as the government confirmed 57 new COVID-19 positive cases on Tuesday, 31 March. With this, the number of COVID-19 cases in Tamil Nadu has jumped to 124.
Out of the 57 new cases, 50 patients are directly linked to the Nizamuddin event with a travel history to Delhi.
A total of 1500 people from Tamil Nadu attended the Nizamuddin Tablighi Markaz at Delhi between 8 March and 20 March. Post the conference, 1130 people returned to the state while the rest stayed behind.
“Out of the 1130 people who came back, we have identified 515 people across several districts. Out of these 515 people, 50 tested positive for the Coronavirus,” said State Health Secretary Beela Rajesh.
All of the newly found infected have been admitted to medical college hospitals in Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Chennai and Namakkal and are stable, she said.
The Health Secretary said tracing of the Tablighi Jamaat attendees is going on, however, many of them have given mobile numbers that are either switched off or unavailable. “We are requesting the people who attended the meeting in Delhi to please come forward and declare yourself so that we can help you and your family.”
