Tired of waiting for MTC bus? Rs 190 crore scam behind it

The Metropolitan Transport Corporation has been committing severe offenses that amount to a fine of about Rs 190 crore, according to a report on Times of India. As many as 110 MTC buses have reportedly been operating in Chennai only during peak hours, violating the norms of the state transportation corporation. Vehicles owned by State Transport Unions should only operate along routes approved by the transport authority and violation of the same would attract a fine of Rs 2,500 the first time and Rs 5,000 for subsequent violations. MTC has been violating this rule since 2011 without paying the violation fee. However, the MTC operators reportedly claim that they are operating during the peak hours for the welfare of the people.
