Thoothukudi police firing: Union Home Ministry orders TN govt to submi

The Union Home Ministry has reportedly ordered the Tamil Nadu government to submit a detailed report on the police firing in Thoothukudi which killed 11 protesters. The Ministry has sought an explanation on the killing of 11 protesters, who were part of thousands of people who demanded the closure of Sterlite copper plant.

The Union Home Ministry has also reportedly questioned why the State government did not take necessary steps for security. Meanwhile, a group of lawyers has appealed to the Madras High Court to take up the case for emergency hearing, while the court has asked them to submit a petition on the matter.

The State Director General of Police TK Rajendran is meeting Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami in the Chief Secretariat. Earlier on Tuesday, the Chief Minister had stated that the police firing was unavoidable as the protesters resorted to violence.
