THOOTHUKUDI POLICE FIRING: MADRAS HC ORDERS TO PRESERVE BODIES OF DECEASED

During the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation, filed by three lawyers, the Madras High Court on Wednesday reportedly ordered that the bodies of those who were killed in the police firing in Thoothukudi should be preserved until next order. The court also said that it will be decided. after examining the initial post-mortem report, if another autopsy is needed.
The court also ordered that lawyers should be allowed to offer legal support to the families of the affected. The court adjourned the matter for hearing on May 30.
Reports suggest that lawyers will boycott courts on May 25 condemning the police firing in Thoothukudi on May 25. Reportedly, they will hold the protest demanding the permanent closure of the Sterlite copper plant.
