These areas are likely to be submerged in TN, says ISRO

Based on a 2012 report by Satellite Application Centre (SAC), a unit of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), environmentalists and urban planners have reportedly warned Tamil Nadu government that 3,209.33 sq km of the State’s coast are prone to submergence if sea level rises by one metre by 2100. In a press conference, Pooja Kumar of Coastal Resource Centre said that none of the warnings put by SAC reports are being considered seriously by the government and it could have serious effects. According to TNIE reports, the SAC report puts all of Ennore, NTECL Vallur, Kamarajar Port, HPCL and BPCL oil terminals, Minjur desalination plant, entire IT corridor and the newly developed areas in Pallikaranai marshlands in the vulnerable areas list.
