According to the district collector, nine trekkers lost their lives so far in the massive fire in Theni’s Kurangani hills. Out of the nine people who passed away, six are from Chennai and the other three are from Erode. According to the officials, 30 people were rescued so far. The rescued trekkers were taken to various nearby hospitals for first aid and treatment, six trekkers are in critical conditions. The Indian Air Force has sent its teams for rescue operations. When a group of 25 women and three children were out in Kurangani hills for trekking, the fire broke out on Sunday.
