The Supreme Court stays the Madras High Court’s order regarding the sale of liquor. The Madras High Court had previously ordered all the TASMAC shops to stay shut, fearing the spread of the novel coronavirus, which is now overruled by the Supreme Court.
An appeal was filed by the Tamil Nadu state government against Madras High Court’s order dated, May 8, for the closure of all state-run liquor vendors with immediate effect to avoid crowds at such public places in view of the pandemic.
Supreme Court’s stay on this order, will allow the shops to reopen in the state. This announcement comes as a major relief to the vendors. The revenue that is generated through the sale of liquor in the state is also expected to raise, following this verdict.
