At least two people were killed and five others were injured after drivers of two buses were allegedly involved in a race near Chengalpattu on Sunday afternoon, says a The New Indian Express report. A private college, bus carrying people to a wedding function of a family known to a senior college official, and a government bus headed to Trichy were involved in the race.
The government bus driver started honking from behind and both of them soon started speeding, police reportedly said. They were involved in a race and started overtaking each other. However, the college bus lost control near JCK Nagar a motorcyclist and a person waiting at a bus stop, police said.
50-year-old motorcyclist S Santhanam from Minjur died the spot, while Valarmathi of Kancheepuram, who was waiting at the bus stop, succumbed to injuries in Chengalpattu government hospital. The government bus driver fled the spot and a probe is on.
