In light of the heat, the director of matriculation schools in Tamil Nadu has banned all special classes during summer holidays. State board schools are scheduled to close for summer holidays on April 12.
According to TOI, in a circular on Tuesday, director S Kannapan said the directorate had received many complaints from parents that private schools were conducting special classes during vacation.
"If the students are forced to attend the classes during the summer, they would get heat related diseases. Hence, the private schools strictly need to be instructed not to conduct any special classes during the vacation," he said in the circular.
The department has advanced the schools closure by 10 days due to elections. As per the original schedule, the academic calendar for CBSE schools will end on April 26. But following the state government's circular, the schools are keeping their last working day on April 12.
