During an interaction with students in ‘pariksha pe charcha’ on Friday, PM Modi said that Tamil is a beautiful language and is older than Sanskrit. He also regretted that he couldn’t go beyond ‘Vanakkam’ in Tamil. DMK working president MK Stalin on Saturday took to Twitter to react to the Prime Minister’s remarks. Welcoming PM Modi’s comments, Stalin demanded that Tamil be made the language of the rule and official language in the Madras High Court, “If his opinion about Tamil is true by conscience.” Stalin also urged the Centre to allocate equivalent funds for Tamil as allocated for Sanskrit. The opposition leader also urged that Thirukkural should be declared as the ‘national literature.’
