After the harsh turn of events, the Tamil Nadu government ordered the permanent closure and sealing of the Sterlite Copper smelter in Thoothukudi. During the protest on May 22, protesters attacked the company's housing colony located just behind the Tuticorin collectorate.
On Monday, when the issue of Sterlite was taken up again during the assembly, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Edappadi K Palaniswami re-assured that the copper smelter will remain closed once for all.
