TAMIL NADU STAY ALERT! IMD SAYS MORE RAINFALL EXPECTED IN NEXT 24 HOURS: DETAILS HERE 

Days after the deadly Cyclone Nivar, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that a low pressure area over south Andaman Sea and adjoining Bay of Bengal is "very likely" to concentrate into a depression in a few hours and it may intensify further before moving towards the Tamil Nadu coast.

Post the cyclone, people of Tamil Nadu thought they could breathe easy but there is some bad news as a low pressure area is likely to form over southeast Bay of Bengal. As a further warning, the IMD states that rainfall activity is going to pick-up again from this weekend. 

Meanwhile, S Balachandran, deputy director general of meteorology at the Regional Meteorological Centre, said the low pressure area will form by November 29 and would concentrate into a depression in the next 24 hours.

"It is likely to further intensity and move towards the Tamil Nadu coast. Under its influence, enhanced rainfall activity is likely to occur over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during December 1-3," he said. 

So various parts in southern states are likely to receive heavy to extremely heavy rainfall starting December 1, the IMD said in release. 

"A low pressure area has formed over South Andaman Sea and adjoining areas of Southeast Bay of Bengal and east Equatorial Indian Ocean (on) November 28. It is very likely to concentrate into a Depression during next 48 hours and intensify further thereafter," it said.

"It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and reach the south Tamil Nadu coast on December 2. The weather office forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with isolated extremely heavy falls as "very likely over" south Tamil Nadu and south Kerala on December 2," the release added.   

Even weather blogger Pradeep John said the new system will bring heavy rains to the delta region and southern districts of Tamil Nadu.

Looking into the maximum and minimum temperatures- Tamil Nadu is likely to be 31 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees respectively.

Amid staying alert, the IMD has also asked fishermen not to venture into the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Andaman Sea, central parts of South Bay of Bengal on, along and off Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts, Kerala coast, Comorin area and Gulf of Mannar from Saturday to Thursday.
