The Tamil Nadu state transport department has reportedly issued a circular banning the installation of crash guards and bull bars on cars, two-wheelers and other vehicles awaiting registration, as well as for registered ones. Reports say, the extra weight of these fittings affect the stability of the vehicle and are designed to protect parts of the vehicle, not the occupants. Violation can attract a penalty between Rs 250 and Rs 2,000.
