SUPREME COURT HEARING ON CAUVERY WATER ROW TODAY

While the anxiety of the distressed farmers in Tamil Nadu, political parties increasing day by day in the matter of Cauvery Management Board, the hearing and the decision of the Supreme Court on the matter is hoped to come as a relief on Monday.

The Centre will be submitting a draft scheme for distribution of water to Tamil Nadu during the hearing. Centre failed to meet the deadline (May 3) saying it could not finalise the scheme for Cauvery as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Cabinet colleagues were busy campaigning for the Karnataka Assembly elections.

With Karnataka elections over, the central government is expected not to drag the matter any further. The Tamil Nadu government filed a contempt petition as the centre did not obey Supreme Court’s order. The Supreme Court on February 16 urged the centre to form the Cauvery Management Board in six weeks.
