RAJIV GANDHI ASSASSINATION CASE: CONVICT NALINI ATTEMPTS SUICIDE IN JAIL

Nalini is currently lodged at the Vellore women’s prison and has been in jail for the last 29 years. According to India Today reports, as per her lawyer Pugalenthi, Nalini has allegedly attempted suicide.
In a conversation with India Today TV media house, lawyer Pugalenthi said that this is the first time in the last 29 years that Nalini Sriharan has tried to take such an extreme step. Further elaborating on the incident, Pugalenthi said that there was allegedly a quarrel between Nalini and another life convict in the jail.
The other inmate escalated the issue to the jailer after which Nalini attempted suicide, said the lawyer to India Today. The lawyer further insisted that Nalini had never done anything like this earlier. He also demanded "to know the real reason” behind it.
Meanwhile, Pugalenthi also asserted that Nalini’s husband Murugan, who is also in prison for Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination case, requested that his wife be shifted from the Vellore prison to the Puzhal prison. To which the lawyer added that a legal request will be made soon.
Seven people, including Nalini and her husband, were convicted by a special TADA court in connection with the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on May 21, 1991.
The tragic incident was done by an LTTE suicide bomber during an election rally at Chennai's Sriperumbudur. They were all sentenced to death, but later it was commuted to life imprisonment.
