Actor-politician Rajinikanth expressed his views on the Thoothukudi shooting and tweeted a video. In the video, he can be heard saying, "I strongly condemn the government's indifference towards the Sterlite protest, the intelligence department's failure and the police's illegal and brutal act of violence. My deepest condolences to the families of the victims."
Protests against Sterlite industry have been taking place in Thoothukudi for the past 100 days. However, the 100th day turned violent as police opened gunfire against the protestors. The shooting took the lives of 11 and many were admitted to the hospital due to injuries.
