Speaking to reporters in Madurai, Filmmaker Pa Ranjith responded to actor Rajinikanth’s statement on Wednesday that Tamil Nadu will turn into a graveyard if people resort to protests for everything. He said, “Rajinikanth didn’t say that protests are not needed at all. I spoke with him. He said that the pain is huge when something undesirable happens during protests.” Certain rights can be obtained only through protests, Ranjith added.
Earlier, Ranjith visited the injured in communal clash in Madurai government hospital and enquired about their health. A 15-member gang entered the Kachanatham village near Manamadurai on Monday night with deadly weapons and attacked the Dalit people in the village, particularly targeting men, say reports.
Reports suggest that three Dalits were killed in the brutal attack by a dominant community. The relatives of the deceased have been protesting for the third consecutive day against the attack and have refused to receive bodies from the hospital. Five people injured in the attack are receiving treatment at the hospital.
