Members of Makkal Jananayaka Katchi on Thursday attempted to lay siege to actor Rajinikanth’s residence in Poes Garden. However, police stopped and arrested them. About 30-40 members gathered at the place and shouted slogans against the actor. Earlier, the security was strengthened near his residence following a speculation of protests.
Rajinikanth's speech stoked a controversy on Wednesday when he said that ‘anti-social elements’ infiltrated the protest against Sterlite on May 22. He said that they caused the violence in Thoothukudi which resulted in police firing that killed at least 13 persons and injured dozens. Rajinikanth also furiously said that Tamil Nadu will turn into a graveyard if people take to streets for everything.
The opposition parties including DMK, Congress and VCK condemned Rajinikanth’s remarks. However, the ruling AIADMK and the BJP welcomed the actor’s statements.
