POPULAR TAMIL WRITER BALAKUMARAN PASSES AWAY

According to reports, popular Tamil writer Balakumaran passed away at Kauvery Hospital in Alwarpet, Chennai, on Tuesday after he was admitted to the hospital following a difficulty in breathing. He was 71. Condolences have been pouring in from the Tamil literary world and readers.

Balakumaran was born in 1946 in Pazhamarneri village near Thirukattupalli in Thanjavur district. The popular writer has contributed hundreds of short stories and over 200 novels. “Mercury Pookkal” and “Irumbu Kudirai” are some of his notable works. He received Sahitya Academy award for “Irumbu Kudirai”.

The notable writer has also worked as a dialogue writer for Tamil films including blockbusters such as such as “Baasha” and “Nayakan”. He has also been associated with several successful Tamil films such as “Gentleman”, “Kadhalan” and “Jeans”.
